Hello! I am researching the Karg family that originated in Bavaria, Germany. My ancestor, Mathias Karg, was born on February 10, 1822 in Bavaria, Germany. That date was on his tombstone which is located in a fairly large city in Western New York State (just south of the province of Ontario, Canada), Buffalo. Mathias came to Buffalo, Erie County, New York, United States of America with his wife, Eva. They started a family there after coming around 1845. Their first child would be John Karg. John was born in 1849 in Buffalo and married Margaret. They had at least three sons who were Thomas W., Franz, and Adam Karg. Franz and Adam were twins, but they both died just two days after they were born in 1879. Thomas lived to be 88 years old, but I have not found a marriage for him as of yet. John Karg died 1893 in Buffalo. Next, there was my great-great-great-grandmother, Mary Karg. She was born on January 28, 1855 in Buffalo. She married John Hilburger, (son of Bavaria, Germany natives, Tobias and Anna Hilburger) who was also born in Buffalo. They had 10 children. Only 6 lived passed infancy. They were (in order of birth): Anna Mary, (Twins) Edward Michael + George Michael, Louisa, Margaret, and Henry Hilburger. Most of their children married, stayed in Buffalo, and had kids of their own. After Mary Karg, Mathias and Eva had Magdalena Karg in 1859. I have no further information on Magdalena. I got her off of an 1860 census for Buffalo so dying young is not out of the question. Then there were was Mathias P. Karg Jr. on August 18, 1861. Mathias Jr. married Mary. I have no record of any children. Mathias died in 1913 in Buffalo. The last child I have record of is George Karg (although I think there was more, possibly one other son and 2 or 3 other daughters). George was born in 1870. I got him off of a census, I believe it was the 1880 one. So, he didn't die at birth but he still may have died young. This Karg family is all buried together at Mount Calvary Cemetery (United German and French) at Section QQ. There are also Hilburger's buried with them. I am descended of John and Mary (KARG) Hilburger. I have a few photographs of Mary Karg (later Hilburger) if anyone is interested. If you research Karg's in Bavaria or Karg's in New York State please contact me. Oh yes, one other thing. There is also a John L. Karg popping up in the Buffalo censuses several times. I am 99.9999% sure he is Mathias' brother. He was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1824. He married Louisa. I have 4 children for them: Francis (1849), Dorothy (1852), Margaret (1856), and Mathias (1858) Karg. There must be more, that was just for the 1860 census for Buffalo. I am really interested in finding Karg's in Buffalo so if you are one please contact me. I am also interested in finding Karg's in Bavaria today. Thanks for taking your time to read this and take care! Have a great day!
