The Karg Family

Su Doku

The Times, one of the leading newspapers in the UK, recently launched a new type of puzzle called Su Doku (or sudoku). For more information about the puzzle, check out www.timesonline.co.uk/sudoku or www.sudoku.com. If you don't have a puzzle handy, but are curious, here is an example.

Solver

Doing one of these puzzles by hand can be quite time consuming. Probably more time consuming than writing a program to solve the puzzle. But then I wouldn't really know. I've never solved one "the long way", I just wrote a little program to do it.

Instructions

Copy the given numbers from the puzzle into the left grid below. Then click on the Solve button. This will submit your puzzle to the solver. Because finding a solution can take quite a while (several minutes, in fact), a solution may not be displayed immediately. Just click the Solve button again after a short while for an update. Once a solution is found, it will be shown in the right hand grid. Solutions are saved, so if you're trying to solve a puzzle which was solved earlier, the result will be shown immediately.
